Six Reasons To Rent Clothes

I’m always keen to shop more sustainably and this blog has become the place where I chart my efforts. I regularly shop pre-owned and in the past I have also rented designer handbags. But what about renting clothes? Here are six reasons why you should rent clothes.

Six advantages of renting clothes

Saves you money

If you decide to rent clothes it can be a convenient and cost-effective way to ‘shop’. How many times have you bought something for an event or occasion and only worn it once. While you can say that if you buy a dress for £100 you have it forever, but if you only wear it once its still a waste. You could probably rent 2-3 dresses for the same price.

Renting also removes the risk of impulse buying. Quite often with rental services if you really love an item (which you will have already tried out) they will offer the option of purchasing it.

Save wardrobe space

I know I’m not the only one who has a wardrobe full of things I don’t wear. And yet I always feel like I have nothing to wear. If you rent clothes you will obviously find that you free up a lot of space in wardrobe – after a good sort out of course.

Wear designer brands

I love designer fashion but I don’t have the bank balance to match. Renting lets you experience owning (if only for a little while) a designer brand at a fraction of the price of buying it. This is especially great for those occasions where you want a really special outfit.

You will never run out of clothes to wear

Everyone I know always complains about never having anything to wear, regardless of how full their wardrobe is. I know I’m definitely guilty of this. Many people only wear a fraction of their wardrobe while the rest just sits there. It’s easier to just grab what you know will look good.

Quite often people also don’t want to be seen wearing the same thing over and over again. Personally I think getting a lot of wear out of something is a good thing. However, I do understand that some people are conscious that they don’t want to wear the same thing to two consecutive events if they know the pictures will be posted to social media. Renting your outfits gives you an endless supply of outfits without the guilt of only wearing something once.

New look

You can try out a new style that you wouldn’t normally go for without fear of wasting money on something that you wouldn’t wear again. I will often see someone in an outfit that I would love to wear but I convince myself that it wouldn’t suit me. If you can rent a look you wouldn’t normally wear and you don’t think it’s for you then it’s not the end of the world.

You can save the environment

By renting your wardrobe it reduces the amount of fabric that ends up in landfill each year. Renting gives you the excitement of feeling like you have a new piece of clothing but once you have finished wearing it you just return it for someone else to do the same.

In my next post I will be trying out a clothing rental service so keep your eyes peeled!
