As I’ve got older I’ve really noticed that my skin has become drier and looks dull. I’d never thought of using a facial oil before because I was under the misconception that it would leave a greasy, oily residue. Having spoken to my sister who is a beauty therapist, I learnt that this is not the case. For my birthday in February she very kindly bought me The Ordinary “B” Oil.
The Ordinary “B” Oil Facial Oil
Suitable for all skin types, it has a formula that supports healthy skin defense and enhances radiance. But what exactly is “B” oil? I always like to take a look into what a product contains. “B” oil is a “purified form of micro-algae in a blend of squalene and nourishing oils such as marula, argan, baobab, pataua, brazil nut, inca inchi, rosehip and borage.”
I had to look up what squalene is because I’ve never heard of it. A quick Google search informed me that it is a fatty molecule found in the skin that more traditionally comes from the livers of sharks. However, there are cruelty-free methods of extracting it from plants. Given that the “B” oil is cruelty-free and research into other products from The Ordinary shows 100% plant-derived squalene, I’m going to say that no sharks have been harmed in the making of this product.
It is also free from alcohol, water, silicone and gluten.
The directions say to apply a few drops as needed or to the entire face after water-based treatments.
The Benefits Of Facial Oil
I have previously written about the benefits of facial oil in my post on why everyone should use a facial oil so you can head over and take a look for more detail.
Seals in moisture
Even people with oily skin can benefit from using a facial oil but those with dry skin find it particularly nourishing. By applying it after your moisturiser it will seal in moisture so your skin will benefit more from the added hydration.
Gives skin a healthy glow
Your skin produces less natural oils as you age. Combined with getting enough sleep, drinking enough water and exfoliating, using an oil can help to promote a healthy glow.
Can help makeup go on easier
Using facial oil can help your makeup glide on more easily if you have areas of patchy dry skin. When I have areas of dry skin I find that foundation can cling to those areas and look cakey. I find that if you apply too much oil or apply it and then try to put your foundation on straight away, the foundation can feel like its rolling off. As I’ve been regularly using oil my skin has been in better condition so I won’t always apply it if I’m wearing makeup.
Can protect skin from pollutants
If you apply your facial oil as the final step of your skincare routine it can act as a barrier over the outer layer of your skin.
My Thoughts
I’ve been using this oil for six months now. I use it morning or evening depending on the other products I’m using and if I’m wearing makeup. I drop it on to my forehead and cheeks which is enough to cover my whole face and neck. The area around my eyes and my forehead is prone to looking and feeling quite dry. This facial oil has worked wonders at brightening my skin and my complexion looks more alive. I will be repurchasing this oil when it runs out. As you only need a little each time I expect it to last me quite a while!
I love The Ordinary products but haven’t tried this oil 🙂 Will pick it up the next time!
