TThe Spice Girls Inspired Trends We All Wore In The ’90s is a sponsored post.
Back in the ’90s it was all about the Spice Girls and girl power. Every girl I knew at the time tried to copy the look of either Baby, Posh, Scary, Sporty or Ginger Spice. Today I’m looking back at the items of clothing every young girl owned in the ’90s.
Union Jack Fashion
When they were perfoming at the 1997 Brit Awards all eyes were on Geri and her Union Jack mini dress. It started a trend for Union Jack themed clothing and in particular printed t-shirts.
Platform Trainers
The ’90s shoe trend was definitely the platform shoe. Myself and my sister both owned a pair of trainers. My pair was more of a platform converse and at the time I remember thinking that they made me so tall. In reality they were probably only about two inches.
Animal Print and Faux Fur
We have Mel B to thank for leopard print. You could guarantee that you would spot some kind of leopard print item at school discos, even if it was just a leopard print scarf or headband.
Adidas
Thank God for Mel C. If you hated the thought of wearing a dress or mini skirt then you could easily take inspiration from Sporty Spice. You could throw on your Adidas tracksuit, Nikes and a cropped top and you were ready to go.
Babydoll Dresses
Emma’s style was perfect for the ultimate girly girl. Sweet pastel shades were a must whatever the item of clothing but anyone wanting to look like Baby Spice wore a babydoll dress. These dresses were often paired with white platform trainers and an unbelievably small backpack.
Pedal Pushers
I remember Geri and Victoria wearing these, and I know I definitely owned a denim pair. Pedal pushers aren’t long enough to be trousers or short enough to be shorts. They just sat on the widest part of your calves in an unflattering manner, making your legs look about five inches shorter than they were.
Cropped Tops
Exposing your midriff was a serious trend in ’90s fashion among young women. Cropped tops were always paired with the lowest waist trousers you could possible find. Don’t even get me started on the amount of girls who had fake belly button rings.
I’d love to know if you were a fan of the Spice Girls. Did you wear any of these trends in the ’90s?
To coincide with the Spice World reunion tour Walkers has reunited with the Spice Girls to crown their Best Ever Fan. The entries rolled in by the hundreds and on June 2nd the girls went to congratulate the winner. But sadly, the celebration quickly turned sour when the lucky winner was faced with the conundrum of choosing between his beloved Spice Girls and his bag of Best Ever Walkers Cheese and Onion.
Ahh babydoll dresses are the best!
