Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant Review

Dermalogica is brand I have known about for years but I haven’t had much experience of them. I’m sure I’ve had a facial with their products in the past but it was so long ago now that I can’t remember. When I found out that I was going to be sent some complementary Dermalogica products from Influenster I was intrigued to give them a go. I was sent their Daily Superfoliant along with a few other goodies.

Daily Superfoliant

Daily Superfoliant is a charcoal based powder designed to deliver your smoothest skin ever. It helps to fight the biochemical and environmental triggers which are known to accelerate skin aging. Air pollution particles penetrate your skin and accelerate the development of brown spots, wrinkles and other signs of aging.

It contains activated binchotan charcoal which absorbs environmental pollutants known to irritate skin. The formula also features niacinamide, red algae and tara fruit which help fight pollution triggers that lead to premature aging. The formula is free from artificial  fragrances, colours and parabens. This highly active resurfacer can help give you firmer, younger looking skin.

How Do I Use It?

After cleansing your skin place half a teaspoon of the powder onto wet hands. Rub your hands together to create a paste. Rub it on your face in circular motions making sure you avoid your eyes and lips. Do this for about a minute then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Your should use the Superfoliant daily. If you have sensitive skin then you should instead use it on alternate days until your skin gets used to it.

The Other Products I Received.

Precleanse Balm. Use this balm to oil product before any of the others as it melts away makeup and other impurities. You should apply it to dry skin in circular motions and then add water to emulsify. Finally rinse it off and then follow with cleanser.

Special Cleansing Gel. Use the gel after the balm. It is suitable for all skin types and it thoroughly removes excess oils without drying out your skin. Lather up a small amount and apply to a damp face. Finish off by rinsing with warm water.

Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream. This is a medium weight moisturiser that balances combination/ dry skin. It contains lecithin which is moisturizing and aloe gel to nourish. Cucumber and arnica also feature to soothe and hydrate your skin. Other important ingredients are grape seed extract, vitamin E and vitamin C which protect skin from environmental factors like pollution. Use it morning and night after cleansing and toning.

How I Got On

I started off with the Precleanse Balm first. It has quite a thick consistency which turns to oil once wet. I was a bit concerned that it would leave a greasy film on my face so I was surprised when my skin just felt soft. I followed this up with the Special Cleansing Gel which lathers up really well and feels like it is thoroughly cleansing your face.

Next up was the Daily Superfoliant. I thought it would be a good idea to use this over the sink and I’m glad I did. If you are a bit too keen getting the powder exfoliant out of the container it will go everywhere. I followed the instructions and was left with paste. Even though it is a powder I was still expecting it to have a grainier texture like other exfoliants I have used. I like a really gritty texture and wondered how I would get on with this very creamy paste. The Superfoliant does feel like it removes build up on the skin without aggravating it and my skin did feel softer and brighter. However, I think I would still use my regular exfoliant once or twice a week just because I like a really good scrub.

I finished off by moisturising with the Skin Smoothing Cream. It is absorbed really well but then I do have very dry skin which drinks any cream I put on it. My face felt well hydrated but I’m not sure I’m that keen on the fragrance the smoothing cream has. The instructions on the tube say use it morning and night but I don’t think I could cope with the scent while trying to sleep.

Overall I was pretty pleased with the products. Would I re-purchase when I run out? The only thing that puts me off is the price point. The Daily Superfoliant on it’s own retails at £55 which makes it pretty pricey!

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.
