I think I’m a bit late to the party when it comes to ‘The Secret’. I have tried reading it before but I thought I would try and take it a bit more seriously going into the new year. If you don’t know what it is I should probably explain first.
The Secret works around the theory that everyone has the ability to create their own reality. The law of attraction says like attracts like, so when you think a thought, you are also attracting like thoughts to you. The book calls us ‘human transmission towers’ and we transmit a frequency with our thoughts. So basically the thoughts we are having now are creating our lives in the future. The things that we think about the most will appear in our lives. We are supposed to think of the things that we want as already ours, like they are already in our possession.
Where I Struggle
The main problem I have with this book is that it says everything that has happened to you, even everything bad, is essentially your own doing. This is what has stopped me from progressing with the book in the past. I struggle to get over the fact that things I would never have wanted to happen, have happened because of me. From the point of view of The Secret this is apparently because you attract to you what you think most about. Which means hypothetically if you were worrying about something bad happening more negative thoughts are drawn to you and the situation seems to get worse. I understand that but what I don’t understand is how illness etc is someone’s own fault.
I know of quite a few other bloggers who have used it and put some of their success down to what it has taught them. Make sure you check out Lauren Black’s blog post and Josie (Fashion Mumblr) has a Youtube video all about it.
To be honest, positive thinking isn’t going to do me any harm and I’m sure we can all benefit from a bit more of it in our lives. For the past couple of weeks I have been super positive about work and blogging and I have been much busier. I also have projects lined up for the new year. Yes, this could all be pure coincidence but we shall see. I’m going to sit down and read the book properly and try my best to put it in to practice. Don’t worry, I will update you on my progress.
I would love to know if you’ve used The Secret. How did you get on?
