If I had to pick my favourite brand of fake tan it would be Skinny Tan every time. A lot of tans struggle to leave any colour on my paler than pale skin but Skinny Tan has never let me down. You can check out my reviews of the express mousse and rose gold tan. Skinny Tan have very kindly sent me some of their Instant Tanner in shade dark to try out and I’m interested to see the outcome.
Instant Tanner
I haven’t used an instant tanner in many many years. I remember when Rimmel first brought out an instant tan and everyone was using it. Fake tan wasn’t quite as popular back then (listen to me sounding old). You would rub it on, get an instant glow and hope it didn’t rain. It will be good to see how far instant tan has come along since then.
Preparation
I always exfoliate my skin before tanning and the box recommends doing the same before the Instant Tanner. I swear by Skinny Tan’s Pre-Tan Primer which is the best exfoliator I think I’ve ever used. My skin feels its softest and smoothest after using it. I also moisturised as I’m finding my skin is quite dry since I’ve had to put the heating on.
Application
I applied the tan using my mitt like I would my normal tan (the express mousse). It goes on just like a lotion fake tan. The formula is very smooth and easy to blend. I also found that I could layer it up as my legs normally need a couple of layers of tan so they match my upper body.
It has a similar scent to the other Skinny Tan products which is like coconut, none of that biscuit smell fake tans are known for. The Instant Tanner gave a nice golden glow which looked really natural. It stayed on all day until I washed it off in the evening with soap and water.
My Thoughts
To be completely honest I would still go with a mousse that would last me a week or so over an instant tan. This is purely because I like to be tanned all the time. However, if I hadn’t had time to tan or I had a last minute event to go to then the Instant Tanner would save my life (totally not exaggerating)!
Are you a fake tan fan? Which brand do you swear by?
I used the mousse this morning for the first time. I am very fair skinned and I am trying for it’s darkest so I’m leaving it on a good while before I shower. I was wondering if you ever do a second application of the mousse and if so should I wait until the first layer dries. What would you recommend?

I always struggle to tan my legs because they are incredibly pale so I will quite often do a second application after the first layer has dried.
