I feel like this post follows on slightly from last Friday’s on how the new season is making me want to overhaul my style (make sure you check it out). I think the main thing I want to achieve is putting together outfits that look effortlessly chic. In today’s post I’ve put together five things that will instantly make your outfit look more chic. Most importantly, they’re all easy to do.
How To Look Effortlessly Chic
Dress in Three Colors at a Time
I’ve previously written about the three colour rule. The idea is that you keep your outfit to less than three colours, even if you’re mixing patterns, prints and textures. With less than three colours, even with mixing patterns, your outfit will look intentionally put together. You can actually get away with four colours if one of them is white. To find out more about the three colour rule head over to my post.
Invest in Timeless Pieces, Not Trends
I’m not against trends, if anything I’m normally all for adapting them to suit your own style. In this instance rigidly following trends makes you look like everyone else and when the trend has past your look then looks dated. By investing in a timeless piece like a trench coat or leather jacket your look will always be classic and will never look tired or old fashioned.
Top To Toe Black
If the three colour rule is a step too far then you can’t go wrong with head to toe black (or even white but if you’re a spiller like me it’s a no go) . It will always be a fail safe chic look. To break up the black you could go for ripped jeans or use your jewellery to make a statement.
Get Your Nails Done
Neat, painted nails are one of the best and easiest ways you can look chic. A nude or pale pink is a subtle way to achieve a polished finish. Painted nails are a great way to pull your whole outfit together. If you want more of a statement nail then you can’t go wrong with a classic red manicure.
Accessorise
Jewellery has the power to turn the simplest outfit into something chic and classy. A statement necklace is a great way to lift your style or your can layer up several fine necklaces. Even a watch worn alone or with stacked bracelets can make a big difference.
Do you have any top tips that instantly turn your look from drab to fab? I’d love to hear them!
