It has been nearly three months since I wrote a post on ‘what happens when you try to blog full time‘ and I thought that it was time for a little update on life and Life’s a Catwalk.
Life
I have had a lot going on this past month or so which has, and still is, taking up a lot of my time. I had committed to blogging three times a week and I have managed to stay on track with that. It has been hard at times to fit in blogging so I’ve been writing several posts in one go when I have time. I’ve also been scheduling time super early in the morning and at weekends just to make sure I’m getting everything down. I fully intend to do Blogtober again this year and have started putting together ideas for posts. The risk with blogging everyday is that the quality of your posts drops so I want to make sure I create high quality content.
Niche
I’ve also decided on my niche. I love all things designer so I always knew that would be involved somehow. However, I don’t have the money to fill my wardrobe with Dior and Chanel so it seemed natural to start featuring more affordable ways of owning designer like pre-loved and even renting. I am still ironing out a few ideas regarding features but things are starting to get there now.
Camera
I’ve bitten the bullet and bought a new camera. I sold two of my cameras and some equipment about six months ago and obviously spent the money then. I wasn’t really using them but now I need to be creating high quality imagery more than ever. I’ve decided on the Olympus OMD EM10 Mark II and I can’t wait for it to arrive. Obviously I considered the Pen EPL-8 but after researching I found out that the EM10 is considered to be the better camera so that made the decision easier. Fingers crossed it doesn’t take me long to get to grips with it.
Opportunities
Opportunities slowed down last month and having spoken to other bloggers they also felt the same. I think it is down to so many people being away over the summer holidays. I’ve already had more emails from PRs this month than I had all of last month so I’m excited to see how the rest of the month pans out. I have a great skincare review lined up and a couple of sponsored posts in the pipeline.
Freelance
This past month or so I really started to miss writing for other people. It is what I was originally doing when I first became self employed. I absolutely love blogging and my long term aim is still to blog full time for myself, I just don’t think I’m ready yet. I decided to take on some freelance work writing for one company and doing social media for someone else. Also by taking on regular freelance work my earnings will be a bit more stable.
I hope I carry on enjoying blogging and being self employed as much as I do now!
Great post Gemma! This is exactly what I doing right now – concentrating on my niche and balancing my freelance work with blogging. It’s hard motivating yourself though isn’t it?!

Thanks! I’m ok when I’m full of ideas but when I get writers block it’s a nightmare. I just want to stop doing everything and eat cake!
It has got to be hard work to be a full time blogger! I read about 1 blogger spending about 50 hours a week on her blog in addition to her full time 40/week job! But that is really what it is to make your own success…. you go girl. I so agree, worry about making creative and quality content, not so much about how many posts a week.

When I used to work full time for someone else I managed to fit blogging in so much easier than I do now that I work for myself. It doesn’t make sense!
