Fashion Blogging When You Don’t Look Like A Model

When I first started blogging I thought that the blogging world was just going to be full of women that looked like they should be a model. Obviously I quickly realised that there are bloggers just like me.

Model Worthy

When I’m checking out other blogs I’m always drawn to the photos particularly if it’s a fashion blog. Some bloggers have professional photographers so the images are incredible quality, but it isn’t just that. Some of these women have completely nailed how to pose. They know the best way to stand and how to hold themselves. They also don’t need to smile and just look just like the camera has caught them off guard in a natural way.

In Front Of The Camera

As soon as someone points a camera at me I tend to freeze slightly. I can never stand in a natural way and I never know what to do with my arms. I have to smile, I can’t get a way with model like facial expressions probably down to the fact I often suffer with resting bitch face. You would think that this is down to being shy but I am perfectly happy being the centre of attention (did I just say that). Maybe it is more down to my personality.

I am always messing around and playing the fool. If you see me out and about I will probably be laughing. The thing with blogging is that I absolutely love it and a lot of the time my photos are taken when I’m hanging out with people I enjoy spending time with.

Generally with fashion blogging your aim is to take photos that highlight what you are wearing. This means you run the risk of many of your images being shot in the same way like a close up of your bag, close up of your jewellery etc. I feel like you can easily lose so much of your personality and what sets you apart from everyone else.

My Goal

These photos were all taken when I spent the morning in Cambridge with Ally (The Middle Sister). Inbetween taking the standard blogger shots I was being stupid and messing around as usual. Ally actually managed to capture these moments which just show how much fun I was having. Yes I do realise I look like a bit of an idiot. Even though they are quite extreme, in a way they are much more natural than my posed for shots.ย This made me think about how I am going about things as a fashion blogger. I want to be able to shoot images that show off the clothing but also show me as a person. I think there is a fine line in getting it right but I am determined to achieve my goal.

Oh I totally do this, I don’t look like a typical Fashion Blogger so half the pictures are of me messing around! Love these photos, it looks like you had a lot of fun!

Thank you, it was a great day. I think it’s nice not to take yourself too seriously and let your personality come through a bit more.
