Every season there is always a must have bag and for SS17 it is the basket bag. Basket bags are everywhere at the moment whether you take a look at your favourite designer, high street store or blogger. Everyone seems to be carrying one.
The Basket Bag Trend
When a bag becomes a must have accessory it is normally because of its luxury quality but this isn’t the case with the humble basket bag. Made from straw, basket bags make you think of wandering around a market carrying a bunch of flowers, or holding your holiday essentials at the beach. The bags are generally hand woven and come in a variety of styles from traditional hand held basket, tote style or oversized bag for shopping. They’re also ideal for any occasion whether it is a stroll around town, dinner with friends or date night.
They were even all over the catwalks at Dolce & Gabbana and Charlotte Olympia. The basket bags don’t even have to be plain wicker. Some have chain straps, embroidery, snakeskin trims and even pompoms which actually happen to be our personal favourite.
Basket bags are not a new thing. They were actually made popular back in the 70s by none other than Jane Birkin. These handy bags not only look good they also inject a bit of fun into your wardrobe. They are also surprisingly versatile and you don’t have to worry about fitting everything in.
My Style
I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a basket bag for weeks but I’ve been on a spending ban. Now that has come to an end I went on a search for the perfect one. This cute Petit Pois basket bag is from Joanie Clothing who I actually came across on a Google search. They may actually be my new fave place to shop as I picked up several pieces that will no doubt appear on the blog.
The beauty of the basket bag is that it pretty much goes with anything. I live in jeans and vest style tops so that’s how I chose to style mine. I also found a pair of flats that I have owned for a couple of years, hiding at the back of my wardrobe.
These bags would also look great with summer dresses or pleated skirts. I intend to try wearing a dress this season even though it is a little out of my comfort zone!
Do you have a basket bag? How would you style yours?
Omg I want one- have been for awhile but your post made me want one even more! I’m going to Greece next week for vacation and wish I had one for my trip! But I am on a spending ban as well. This way I will have more spending $ when I am there!
I don’t think my comment went through before…but i love basket bags! I have wanted one but your post made me want one even more… 🙂
