Why It’s Ok To Treat Yourself

This time of year is all about giving and I love looking for presents that I know my friends and family will enjoy, but what about treating ourselves?

If I have worked particularly hard or have achieved a goal that I have set myself then I will often treat myself. It doesn’t have to be anything big but if there is something I have had my eye on then I might just purchase it. There are times when I feel guilty for spending money on myself and I know I’m not the only one.

We all work hard for what we earn so it is ridiculous that we should feel this way. I choose to spend my money on fashion, whether that is one larger purchase or a few little purchases. I often feel like I have to justify myself and my spending. Just recently I decided to treat myself to this amazing Karen Millen coat that I had been lusting after for quite sometime. It just happened to be in the Black Friday sales which was brilliant, but if someone mentions the coat I feel the need to inform them I bought it in the sale. Why should it even matter if I had bought it full price? Yes it is a more expensive item but what I spend my money on is up to me. As shallow as it sounds, being able to buy nice things makes me happy.

It doesn’t have to be treating yourself to a material object, it can also be about caring for yourself. I am not good at this at all. I spend so many hours a day looking at my laptop screen and my phone screen. Combine that with lack of sleep and being shockingly bad at drinking regularly and it is resulting in continuous migraines. Last week was probably the worst they have been in a while so this week I have been making some serious changes. Yes I have work that I need to get done but this shouldn’t be at the expense of my health. This means that I have been trying to treat myself better. I’ve been making more of an effort to go to bed earlier, I’m drinking at least two litres a day (instead of about 600ml) and most importantly I am breaking up the amount of time I’m sat at my desk. The change has been instant and I’m currently migraine free.

Obviously we are all super busy this month preparing for Christmas but I think we should all take the time to make ourselves feel a bit better. How will you be treating yourself?

So true and you deserved a little (or a big) something every now and then!
