What To Pack For A Winter Weekend Getaway

Who doesn’t love a weekend break away, after all a change of scenery does us good. City breaks are always welcome at this time of year as we indulge in a spot of sightseeing while picking up gifts for loved ones. I have always been good at travelling light so I have put together a few points for you to consider before packing, and some must have pieces that will see you through your weekend.

Important things to remember:

1. Wear your coat or any bulky items to travel in as this will save space in your case.

2. Several thinner layers are better than one thick piece which is why there is no chunky jumper in my selection.

3. Consider what activities you will be doing. The pieces I have chosen are based on a city break with sight seeing, shopping, and meals out.

4. When packing roll up your clothes rather than fold them which saves space and helps prevent creases.

5. The key to packing light is to chose pieces that can double up for day or evening wear.

Packing List.

The Jeans – Topshop MOTO Mid Stone Leigh £38

getaway jeans

Jeans hardly need an explanation, after all they are a staple piece in nearly everyone’s wardrobe. A mid wash pair of skinny jeans look great day or night.

The Coat – Warehouse Extreme Faux Fur Collar Coat £95

getaway coat

Such a simple piece but guaranteed to make you look good. Its neutral tone makes it easy to slot into your wardrobe and the fur collar gives a cosy, luxurious look that will make you want to keep it on.

The Boots – Dorothy Perkins Black Western Ankle Boots £35

getaway boots

These boots are ideal for any capsule wardrobe as they are smart enough to wear out for a meal but comfortable enough that you can walk around shopping in them all day.

The Dress – Warehouse Premium Fit and Flare Dress £68

getaway dress

Consider a dress made of jersey style material as it won’t crease in your case. This is another piece that can be dressed up or down as required. It has a flattering cut and long sleeves for that bit of extra warmth. Pair with the tights, boots, and necklace for evening wear or tone down the jewellery and add a cosy hat for day wear.

The Bag – Kurt Geiger Croc Charlie Cross Body £225

getaway bag

A cross body bag is a must. There is plenty of room for your essentials and the shoulder strap means your hands are completely free, which is great if you are anything like me and you have to pick up everything you see.

The Evening Top – Oasis Aztec Sequin T-Shirt £40

getaway top

Add a touch of glitz to your jeans with this sequin t-shirt. It takes you from your evening meal to sunset cocktails with ease.

The Tights – Boots £6.25

getaway tights

An essential item if you want to wear a skirt or dress in the chilly winter months. A higher denier looks much better than sheer tights, you don’t really want to see any skin.

The Cardigan – New Look Grey Slouch Midi Cardigan £22.99

getaway cardigan

Like I said before several thin layers are better than one thick layer. It is important that you stay warm while you are walking around the city all day and multiple layers mean you can take one off should you get too hot when you stop off at a little bar for the afternoon.

The Long Sleeve Top – New Look Long Sleeve Top £4.99

getaway day top

Another must have. A simple long sleeve top allows for versatility should you want to wear it on its own or layer up with the cardigan.

The Hat – ASOS Whistle Alpaca Mix Beanie £45

getaway hat

A hat will always complete your look and this one not only looks good but also keeps you toasty, and who doesn’t love a pom pom.

The Trainers – New Look Hi Top Lace Up £11.99

getaway trainers

These are an essential for any city break as there is nothing worse than sore feet and your complaining won’t exactly endear you to your travel companions.

The Necklace – H&M Necklace £5.99

getaway necklace

A simple stylish necklace adds a subtle touch to your outfit and can finish off your look. Something quite plain often works better than a piece covered in glistening gems.

Are there any essential pieces you think I have missed? Do you have a favourite city break destination? I would love to hear your recommendations.
