I was invited by Best British Bloggers, in conjunction with Money Supermarket to write a post about what I carry in my handbag. As an incentive there is the chance to win a Mulberry Bayswater handbag, as well as a purse and phone case.
As you can probably see from the photo I am one of those people that carry a ridiculously large bag, much bigger than I actually need. Unlike most people however, rather than filling it to the brim, it tends to be pretty empty. I am guilty of throwing things into it and forgetting what I have got.
This exercise also requires that we total up the cost of the contents of our handbags as Money Supermarket would like to work out the average value of the contents of a handbag. It is this bit that makes me a bit nervous, as I think that the contents of my bag may be worth more than I expect.
Handbag.
I was cutting through TK Maxx and this bag caught my eye. I loved the design and the colour. It is actually by Jane Shilton (I have only just discovered this as I hadn’t read the label) and it cost me £30.
Iphone 4S.
I was never really a fan of Apple but I have to say I would be absolutely lost without my phone. I obviously use it for calls and texting but I also manage my five email accounts, two Twitter accounts, Two Facebook pages as well as my Blog from it. You can now buy this phone for £449.
Keys.
I have my car keys, two house keys and my key to my locker at work. I don’t actually know how much it cost to replace keys if you lose them.
Camera.
I am in the process of doing my Photography Degree so I tend to carry a camera with me at all times. You never know when the perfect shot will present itself and there have been no end of times I have regretted leaving it at home. I have three cameras but my Nikon D90 is my favourite so I always carry this one. I tend to leave the 18-105mm lens on it as I find it to be a good multipurpose lens. The cost of replacing them would be roughly £700 although this camera is no longer made.
Purse.
I love this purse; it is a Mulberry Continental Wallet. I waited for Mulberry to have a sale before buying as the full price would be about £225.
Notebook, Pen, Business cards.
You never know when these will come in handy. Often inspiration strikes and I have to write ideas down there and then otherwise I forget. I have also been to blogger events and been asked for my card only to find that I didn’t put any in my bag. You never know when you may be asked for one! I am allowing £5 here for my notebook and pen and not worrying about the business cards.
Tissues, Compact, Lipstick, Painkillers, Hand cream.
I don’t tend to wear much make up, mainly because I can’t be bothered with having to remove it. I do wear lash extensions permanently which does help, but I think that just adding lipstick makes you look more finished. I replaced my old compact with this lovely new one which was made for my by the brilliant Kp Boutique (I have shoes to match). I always get things in my eyes, its handy if I have to take my contact lenses out/put them in and I would not be able to neatly put the lipstick on without it! I suffer with headaches quite a bit as I struggle to sleep well. I hate taking tablets for it but sometimes I have no choice. I am unsure the cost of the compact, the lipstick was £14 and the tissues and painkillers were no more than £1.50. I suffer with very dry skin on my hands and they get very painful when it is cold. I love L’Occitane hand cream as it make my hands feel lovely and hydrated. I think that this cost about £10.
Sunglasses.
I love these Versace sunglasses. They cost me £140 but I really struggle to find a pair that fit me. I have quite small features so they always fall off. I also wear lash extension permanently which means the sunglasses need to be far enough from my eyes that I can open and shut them!
TOTAL:
£1556.50!!!!! This is not even including the compact or how much it would cost to replace all of my keys!
To say I am shocked is an understatement. I knew it was going to be quite a lot because I have my camera in there but I was not expecting it to be this high. Luckily I have all of my cameras and equipment insured anyway as I think it is better to be safe than sorry. I have never really factored in the cost of the actual handbag or my purse. I do own designer handbags (Mulberry, Chloe, Prada and Louis Vuitton) so I can only imagine how much higher my total could be if I happened to be writing this while using one of them. If anyone knows if you can insure your actual handbag then please let me know!
