High Street Fashion Week Presents Urban Charm.

Urban charm has simply come from a young mum’s passion for creativity. The brand strives to be accessible to everyone and so the jewellery is created using the best materials sourced at the best costs to allow the pieces to be sold at realistic prices.

A bespoke service is also available and Urban Charm will work with you to create the perfect piece of jewellery whatever the style or occasion. Urban Charm does not limit itself to everyday jewellery; designs also include tiaras, headbands and wedding jewellery that can be made to complement the theme of that special day.

The possibilities are endless. Jewellery is constantly being designed to keep up with the seasons and ever changing styles which means that items are guaranteed to be on trend. Essex based designer Amanda Payton uses any feedback received to ensure that anyone choosing to buy Urban Charm pieces will never be disappointed.

What inspired you to start up the brand?

I have always liked costume jewellery and a family member had a party where she was selling ‘wholesale’ jewellery. While all the pieces were lovely I felt that as they were mass produced the love and care of making each piece was not evident. So I bought myself a jewellery making book from Amazon and a tool kit from Ebay and got making!

Have you always been interested in designing?

I always liked art and design at school but never really designing as such, but once I started designing and making jewellery there was no turning back! I just can’t believe it took me so long to find something I love doing so much!

If you weren’t designing jewellery, what career would you have chosen?

I was a manager for a large retail company for 10 years and was always very career minded but when I had my children I knew I had to find something that worked around them and so Urban Charm was born! I’m also a registered childminder and love doing both!

If I brought you an outfit would you be able to design jewellery that would co-ordinate?

A lot of my returning customers are ones that need me to create a specific piece of jewellery, and my bespoke service allows me to do just that. I pride myself on being able to work with the customer to create the perfect piece of jewellery to co-ordinate with any outfit or occasion.

What materials do you like to use?

A lot of my work is made using crystals and glass pearls although I also love using semi-precious stones such as Hematite tigers eye and turquoise. I work with both elastic and silver plated wire to create my pieces.

Which celebrity would you love to design jewellery for?

I would love to design a piece for Holly Willoughby. She is a working mum like me. I just love her sense of style and she’s stunning. I think Urban Charm would be just her cup of tea!

UC4

What would you say to someone who was thinking of setting up their own brand?

Go for it!! I’ve been making jewellery for a few years now and I never really had the confidence to push Urban Charm just that little bit further, but now I have and the worlds my oyster. Be confident, believe in yourself and your product and you will get there.

How did you get involved with HSFW?

I was contacted through Twitter by the events co-ordinator Stacey Bell and asked if I would like to take part to which the answer was a very definite yes!!!

How is preparation going?

It’s crazy! I am collaborating with another designer KpBoutique and am currently working on ten new designs to compliment her stunning crystallised heels. We will both be showcasing our new designs at the fashion shows on Saturday and Sunday.

What are you looking forward to most about attending?

I’m looking forward to seeing people’s reactions to Urban Charm. It’s one thing selling your pieces, but to put them on display in such a public way not only in the boutique but on the catwalk too is both exciting and terrifying in equal measure, and I can’t wait!

These stacked bracelets are definitely my favourite; I love the black beads with a hint of sparkle. They really go with my style at the moment and I am particularly drawn to the bead in the shape of a cross.
